Dear Old Nicki

Okay who’s ready for another controversial topic? I think I am. And this has to do with Nicki’s Grammy performance last night. Which can be found here:

Roman Holiday

Anyways, there is quite a number of people in particular Catholics who are outraged with this performance. They think it glorifies evil and that she is disgusting and God basically hates her for it. Thats what I’ve gotten from several reviews, fan posts on Nicki’s Facebook page, and people talking about it at school.

Here is my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion so here it is. I think this performance was overall good for a few reasons but also bad for a few others. Musically, I was kind of disappointed it had neither good raps nor and kind of catchy-ness. Theatrically, the performance was entertaining, it was bizarre and I liked that. Now here’s where people will disagree with me, I think that this “criticism” to the Roman Catholic church was a good thing. The Catholic church has been known to have quite a few problems with it wether it be priests touching little boys to the Pope publicly condemning homosexuality as an evil. See I feel like the Catholic church (while it isn’t all bad) they haven’t received any criticism that could check and balance the church’s less than desirable qualities. I don’t know if the bluntness of her performance was completely necessary but it was nice to see that there is public criticism of the Catholic church on a broader scale than the blog of some atheist or some small rally.

I’m not an expert but this is how I feel. I love Nicki Minaj (more her older stuff) and I hope more people do too! Thanks for reading everyone and like I said I MEAN NO DISRESPECT TO ANYONE (well maybe to the pope for saying my homosexuality is a form of evil).

Weekend Plans

This weekend is going to be crazy. Tomorrow I have my first dual meet which is directly followed by our Sadie Hawkins dance. At my school Sadies doesn’t  have a formal dress code instead we can dress up to themes by our groups. My group is doing Disney which works out perfectly in that I already have that wonderful Peter Pan number. I am so excited to dance. Most guys at the dance look forward to grinding(AKA the easiest and sleaziest dance out there). I on the other hand really enjoy dancing with out rubbing up on some girl’s rear. There are so many fun dances that I can participate in. For example: 2 step, Your a Jerk, Pop Lock and Drop it, Dougie, Bernie, and much more! Dances are awesome and even though I’m not a professional dancer I feel that if you dance with confidence people think your good, or at least in my experience. This will also be a great time to work on booty popping that I am determined to be able to do ever since that video I posted last Sunday.

After the dance, we are taking our party bus through neighborhoods with the coolest Christmas lights then we are having a party at my good friends house! They even are offering for everyone to sleep over. However for some reason my parents won’t let me even though the “co-ed” of it all really shouldn’t hurt anything since I am GAY. Oh well.

Saturday I have a practice nice and early then I get to see my friend that goes to UCLA who gets back! Following that, I get to hang out with Duke. He might be DJing at a corporate party so I might tag along. As long as I am with him I’m happy even if I have to be around a bunch of corporate people I don’t know.

Sunday, I have homework, lots of it. So I’ll do that and then I have a Xmas party to go to with a gift exchange thing that tends to be white elephant so I have this weird little spinning mobile that I’d love to get rid of.

Lastly, I don’t know if any of you readers have seen the newest Rick Perry ad but it is absolutely AWFUL. I honestly want to hear a intelligent reason why conservatives want to combine church and state. Here’s that awful ad: Oh, I guess I’ll take advantage of my readership and say DON’T VOTE PERRY. Okay here it is for real:

It’s Time

Over the past 24 hours Al, another gay friend of mine, and a blog reader have suggested that I post this video about ending marriage discrimination. An Australian equal rights group made this very well done video that you all should take a look at. Personally, this made my eyes water it gives me such hope.

In other news, I have officially submitted my applications for college! Although I have a supplement for one or two I am completely finished with five schools. As promised, I said I would post my main essay that I’ve been working on for so long so here it is:

Every person in the world encounters obstacles throughout their life. These problems shape what type of young adult they will be. I spent countless moments struggling with a problem of mine, hoping and praying it would go away.

My problem was internal; no one needed to know it. My problem seemed to set me apart from the rest of the world. It made me alone. I felt that neither society nor I could accept this problem. At least that’s what I thought.

For the better part of high school I did all I could to hide it. To some people, I am a lesser person because of it. It killed me on the inside, so I did all I could to be perceived as normal.

This past summer changed the way I perceived things and everything having to do with my problem changed.  I was tired of being something I wasn’t, and a lot of what I experienced this summer showed me that it was okay to stop hiding the true me. My church taught me that I am an image of God and I was brought to this earth for a purpose. At a Ke$ha concert I went to, she preached self acceptance. And the TV show Glee asserted that I should care less about what people think and focus on making myself happy. Towards the end of my summer all of these messages finally clicked with me. I resolved to take action.

Late this summer, I decided to reveal my secret to my closest friend. Half expecting her to already know my secret, I told her in my car on the way to a concert. Immediately following my confession, she told me how proud she was of me and that she accepted and loved me just as much as she did before I told her. The world didn’t end; I actually felt better letting her know. At that moment I realized that I could have more than just self acceptance, the people closest to me could accept me as well. I began to tell more and more friends, and it was incredibly liberating because they all accepted the true me. I had a stable group of friends who supported me.

I eventually told my parents the life changing secret. Once again I received nothing but acceptance from my parents. I realized that some people take years to figure out who they are and come to terms with themselves. In my first seventeen years I have not only found myself I have found a new confidence that shows throughout my whole life. I am confident in my opinions, actions, and decisions due to my recent self discovery.

I have found out that I am gay. I accept my sexual orientation, and my self discovery has helped me to become the confident young adult I am today.

Protect IP

The Protect IP is yet another piece of legislation that I believe shows how moronic our government is. The Protect IP bill is a bill that has recently been drawn up and is to be voted on soon in the Senate and House of Representatives. This bill was designed to allow the government to block americans ability to type in any sites that endanger the entertainment industry or even block sites that have links to incriminated sites. Basically this means that all file sharing sites will be banned, and any site that links to these types of sites. One could link to a file sharing site on Facebook, therefore this could ban Facebook and other sites that the government feels is endangering the entertainment industry. This bill would effectively cripple the internet and put us leagues behind other nations technologically. Additionally, this type of internet “control” is used by countries like China and Iran who have been severely crippled by censoring the internet. Lastly, the internet industry brings in significantly more profit than the entertainment business ever will so our economy could also suffer from this bill. Although this bill was made with good hearted intentions to control pirating there are far more negative impacts that will come from this bill than positives. This bill has no place in our nation and I urge everyone to sign online petitions to oppose this atrocious bill. Here is a link: http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/protectip_docs

Now that I’m done ranting, this will be my last blog post for the next few days because I will be at a church retreat called TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) I really enjoy this weekend I still want to figure out more about my spirituality because honestly I don’t know where I am. Hope you all had a good Wolf Shirt Wednesday! and a have a good weekend!

MN Marriage Amendment

This morning I was woken bright and early to be told to go to church with the rest of my family. I was not excited at all, especially since I have essays to write, but I threw on my preppy little blue sweater and proceeded on to church.

I got to church and was instantly bored, (we go to the old people service) I sat in our pew sulking wishing I was anywhere else. Our priest began rather unconventionally beginning to talk about the roots of our church (Episcopal = Gay Friendly!!!). He then brought up the elections of this year and next. Specifically, a gay marriage amendment.

For those of you who don’t know, the MN senate is trying to pass a Constitutional Amendment that defines marriage already stated in MN law the only reason this is being made is that anti-gay lawmakers want to make it very hard to legalize gay marriage in Minnesota. In my opinion, I think people are making this because they feel that times are changing so they want to make it very hard change. It is a amendment based off of ignorance, homophobia, and stubbornness. The bill passed earlier this year and is going to be voted on in the 2012 presidential election. I will be 18 and voting against it and rallying against it as much as possible.

Anyway, at church the priest told us of the amendment and that that our church shouldn’t support such a law and that all glbt are children of god. I loved that he said that, not only did it make me feel accepted, almost the entire congregation should be voting against this awful amendment. It gives me hope!

Enough of the political stuff, I hope everyone’s Halloweekend was spectacular. I dressed up as a 80s workout guy/gay

Blood Drive

At school today, the blood drive came back again like it does every year. Every year I have been denied. Sophomore year I got denied because I had gone to a area of Belize where there was risk to exposure of West Nile. So I tried back Junior year, they extended the period of how long after being possibly exposed to West Nile they would allow. This year I naturally grabbed the sheet, but besides being unable to donate due to my finger and stitches I noticed something I had actually heard about.

The American Red Cross explicitly doesn’t allow gay people to donate. Their rationale is that gay people have a higher risk of being exposed to HIV. Valid point, however the Red Cross and FDA act in a very one sided manner.

If a straight person has sex with a HIV positive they only have to wait a year before they are cleared to donate. Very hypocritical. And the Red Cross and FDA claim all these assertions in that they are “about blood safety.” So one can act very homophobically and discriminatory if they claim they are doing these things for the safety of the people.

I’ve always wanted to donate blood. I find it unfair that the signs for the blood drive say “you can save 3 people with your donation” when really it says “you can save 3 people with your donation, except gays.”

I guess I’ll have to save a life somehow without the help of the FDA or Red Cross. If any of you guys are interested, here’s the article I got my info from.

Anyway here’s a song I’ve really gotten into because of a certain someone:)
